WHY IS MY DOG LACKING MOTIVATION?

A couple of reasons why your dog could be lacking motivation are:

You’ve spoiled them by giving rewards to shut them up or get them to do something, so when there’s no reward, they have no reason to perform.

You’ve given  too much access to your attention, affection, the whole house, and the dog no longer sees the value in any of it.

Of course there are other reasons such as nervousness and insecurity. The good news for you is that it’s not too late to build your dog’s motivation regardless of what kind of schedule you have.

Often times there are many underlying factors and things you have to discover first before you get to the seemingly obvious problem. Ruling out the obvious means visiting a vet to ensure your

dog isn’t injured or dealing with any health related issues. Once you’ve determined that, you can now proceed with training routines that build motivation.

WHY DOESN’T MY DOG PAY ATTENTION TO ME WHEN WE GO OUTSIDE?

If your dog doesn’t listen to you inside the house, you certainly can expect that they won’t listen to you outside the house. It’s possible that you’ve built a relationship based on giving your dog

everything it wants, whenever it wants it, while never asking for anything from them. Here’s a simple test. If your dog is on the couch right now, ask your dog to get off the couch. If your dog

stared at you and went back to watching the T.V., well…it’s the dog’s couch now and you’re just a guest. The world is so much more exciting (or scary) outside your home and that’s a lot to

compete against. Your dog needs to feel like you’re more entertaining, rewarding, interesting and fun.

WHY IS MY DOG BARKING CONSTANTLY?

There are 3 major reasons why any dog barks this way. They’re either excited about something or someone, possibly hyper active because they haven’t quite learned how to control their

emotions, they could be frustrated as a result of not getting something they want or need, and they may be bored. In other cases, more often than not, dogs bark out of fear. If you happen to have

an anxious or fearful dog, and you notice they’re always barking and walking backwards or trying to hide behind you, then you certainly have a serious behavioral issue that needs to be sorted.

WHY IS MY DOG BITING AND CHEWING EVERYTHING?

The top 2 reasons why your dog could be incessantly chewing are:

You have a young puppy on your hands, and they might be teething. This is why chew toys exist. They help a puppy ease the stress of growing with those teeth and if a toy isn’t available, your

fingers kind of look like toys to them. The other reason might be that they are older and bored. Exercise and simple routines are helpful to any dog at any age. If your dog is still destructive, you

shouldn’t give them unrestricted access to your whole house without supervision. If they keep practicing that behavior, it becomes tough to modify because those things are already self rewarding

and satisfying to your dog.
